Competing at an Eventing competition with my horse Irish Leprechaun
I was brought up in the rural far north village of Golspie in Sutherland. I have been interested in music all my life & began learning piano at the age of 8. Since then, I have learned oboe, guitar, clarsach, cor anglais & singing.
I started learning clarsach with the encouragement of my P6 teacher Graham McCarthy to whom I am most grateful. I joined the Clarsach Society & attended tuition weekends & festivals alongside my weekly lessons from Vicki Horton. I enjoyed participating in various Feisean throughout Scotland & successfully competed in the National Mod for a number of years. In January 2002, I won a Danny Kyle award at Celtic Connections festival in Glasgow.
I graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music & Drama with a BA(Scottish Music)Honours in July 2003 having studied clarsach, singing and composition. I am now a full time freelance musician and involved with Yehudi Menuhin's Live Music Now! scheme, performing in a variety of venues. See www.livemusicnow.org
During my spare time, I enjoy playing & watching sport. Travelling is a great hobby which I combine well with my music.
